So it’s that time of year again, August 1st is International IPA Day. It’s obvious how you should celebrate - with a hoptacular IPA! But which one should you choose?
We’ve got some of our favourite local IPA’s here for you.
Driftwood - Fat Tug - Arguably the best IPA in the country, it took home the 'Beer of the Year' award in 2011. 7% and 80+ IBUs make up this wonderful brew that we think everyone should try. Again and again.
Central City - Red Racer IPA - Coming out of Red Racer aka the '2012 Brewery of the Year' winner, this beer has a nice bite of bitterness to it and a lasting aftertaste. We appreciate that this beer comes in a 6-pack rather than a bomber as well.
Central City - Imperial IPA - This might be @VancityBeerGuy’s "End of the world" beer. ‘I could drink this until the day I die.’ So well balanced with the perfect punch of hops. Highly recommend you try it before he drinks it all! You might even find limited edition casks with various hops used to dry hop.
Switchback IPA - This is the best beer coming out of Lighthouse
Brewing on the island (Their Belgian Black is a close second). It's
well balanced, crisp and one of the most refreshing IPAs in the
market. Very sessionable. Grab a 6-pack and enjoy. If you're looking for something with a little more kick try the limited seasonal Numbskull Imperial IPA! If you can find it ;)
Howe Sound Devil’s Elbow IPA – Another great sessionable IPA. One of the favourites out of the Squamish brewery, just behind their Baldwin & Cooper’s Best Bitter. If it’s too hoppy for you, at 68 IBUs then you can top it off and take a break without letting the carbonation escape with the handy bottle topper 1L bottles!
Hoyne Devil’s Dream IPA – Clocking in at 6% this IPA is loaded up with Simcoe, Citra and Centennial hops making it an ideal West Coast IPA. We love what Hoyne produces because it’s not overly assertive to the palate and is a great beer for new-comers to craft beer. Tip this one back with some friends and enjoy!
