Pumphouse Pub Brewmaster's Dinner - BC Craft Beer Month

On Friday October 4th 7-10pm, I had the pleasure of attending my first Brewmaster's Dinner at Pumphouse Pub in Richmond. The five course dinner, created by Executive Chef Daniela Iaci, was paired with five BC beers. The breweries included Driftwood, Four Winds, Arrowhead, Parallel 49, and Fuggles & Warlock. The dinner was in celebration of BC Craft Beer Month, and each brewery had a representative there to talk about the beer.

Course #1 - Arugula, Radicchio, & Citrus Salad, Paired with Driftwood Sartori Harvest IPA.

I found this salad to be overly bitter from the radicchio and grapefruit/basil vinaigrette, but the creamy goat cheese calmed it down once I put a little into every bite. Sartori on tap? Yum!

Course #2 - Farmhouse Anti Pasti, Paired with Four Winds Saison.

This was a great pairing to have after the salad. Silky chicken liver pate smeared onto french baguette complimented by peppered manchego cheese. The marinated vegetables were a nice addition, and provided a good balance to the plate. The Saison was a perfect match.

Course #3 - Course #3 - Curried Coconut Seafood Linguine, paired with Arrowhead 'I'm So Freakin' Hoppy!' IPA.

I love spicy food, and this dish definitely hit the mark. The pasta was perfectly cooked, with generous portions of black tiger prawns, wild BC salmon and fresh scallops nestled in between. The IIPA, although pretty mellow for an Imperial, combated the spiciness well.

Course #4 - Sweet & Spicy Filet Mignon Tacos, Paired with Parallel 49 Gypsy Tears Ruby Ale.

This was a hearty dish! Simple yet tasty. The seared filet mignon was juicy and flavourful, topped with pico de gallo, served in soft shells. I think the tacos could have used some sauce as an extra component, but that's just my opinion. The Gypsy Tears did a good job with the heat.

Course #5 - Cardamon & Pistachio Cake, Paired with Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks The Last Strawberry: White Chocolate Edition.

I had just enough room left in my stomach for this deliciously dense cake. Topped with macerated strawberries and white chocolate whipped cream, this was a great dessert to end the dinner. The beer was quite unique, and I was pleasantly surprised at the real white chocolate aroma and refreshing strawberry taste. Fantastic!

Pumphouse Pub is also showcasing 31 BC Breweries in 31 Days, as part of BC Craft Beer Month. Conveniently located near the 402 bus route, there's no reason you can't responsibly enjoy their great craft beer, tasty food and warm service.
