What To Do: Father’s Day in Vancouver

Sunday, June 16th is Father’s Day and we’ve got some great ideas for you so you can treat your Old Man right on his special day.

Alibi Room for Craft Beer Tasting

Dad’s love beer; It’s science. So take your Dad to the best beer house in town with 40+ taps of exceptional craft beer and order up a couple of taster flights to explore the great selection, he will undoubtedly find a beer that he will fall in love with. The staff is very knowledgeable when it comes to craft beer so don’t hesitate to ask for their recommendations if the two-sided beer list seems daunting.

We recommend trying a bit of everything here. Owner Nigel only brings in the best beer, so be a beer explorer for the night!

Peckinpah for BBQ and Bourbon

Treat Dad to some of the city’s best BBQ in Gastown’s little meat mecca. They boast a list of over 35 bourbons and whiskeys as well as 9 draft beer options and more options on the bottle. We recommend the ‘Bit of Pork and Bit of Beef’ combo platter paired with either Bulleit Bourbon or Russel’s Blood Alley Bitter.

If you really want to treat your Dad, order him some Pappy Van Winkle 20 year.

Vancouver Urban Winery for Wine Tasting

Just around the corner from The Alibi Room on Dunlevy Ave is this hidden gem. Pouring wine on tap using FreshTap technology this venue offers a wide variety of BC wines in well priced taster packs. This is a nice way to bring out the sommelier in your Dad.

Note: Tasting Room is open 10am – 6pm Sunday.

Killjoy Cocktail Tavern for Cocktails

If your Dad is a fan of intricately made cocktails, especially if they contain Gin, then Killjoy is a perfect place to take him on Father’s Day. This authentic cocktail bar houses the largest gin list we’ve ever seen and their concoctions are great. Even if your Dad doesn’t usually drink cocktails, Jay Jones puts together drinks that will put hair on your chest and will make your Dad think twice if he doesn’t consider cocktails a manly drink.

We recommend sitting at the bar and ordering Simon Ogden’s ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ cocktail; it’s one of the more entertaining drinks on the menu.

Tee Up a Brew

The weather forecast for Sunday is Sunny and 20+ degrees so set up a tee time and take your Dad golfing at one of the BCPGA and grab some craft beer in the clubhouse afterwards; our friends at Beerthirst are the beer suppliers of the BCPGA so you know there will be some good beer available!

We recommend Mayfair Lakes in Richmond; A nice course with not much tree cover so you’ll be able to soak in the rays all day!
