On Friday, June 14th #YVRBeerTweetup swept back into The Park at English Bay for another night of great craft beer and great company.
Starting at 7pm, the event included a double tap takeover of Hoyne Brewing and Steamworks Brewing and a tasting/information session of four brews from each brewery. One beer from each brewery was expertly paired with canapés made by The Park’s Chef Byron.
The pairings were as follows:
1 - Hoyner Pilsner + Steamworks Pilsner with a Smoked Chicken Taquito, House Salsa and Sour Cream
2 - Hoyne Down Easy Pale Ale + Steamworks Pale Ale with a Pain Perdue with Mushroom, Aged Cheddar, Pesto Aioli and Tomato Jam
3 - Hoyne Summer Haze Honey Hef + Steamworks Saison with a Croquette with Mashed Potato, Goat Cheese, Green Onion and Red Pepper Relish
4 - Hoyne Dark Matter + Steamworks Frambozen with a Sponge Cake with Chocolate Sauce and Raspberry Mousse
Nick kept going back to sneak more taquitos but the best pairing might have been the Sponge Cake with the Dark Matter and Frambrozen; It accentuated the unique flavours of each beer nicely.
On top of the tasting, attendees had the opportunity to speak with Steamworks’ Brewmaster Caolan Vaughan and learn more about the art of brewing beer; it was interesting to listen to him describe his passion for beer. Pouring the beer for each brewery were the entertaining Jordan of Hoyne Brewing and Marc from Steamworks, they have energy for days and represented their respective breweries in the best way.
